The field was alive on Tuesday morning with laughter, smiles and energy as the Kauri team took off around seven different stations. High jump, sack races, sprints, long jump, an obstacle course, ball throw and frisbee. Each activity was run by some fabulous Year 6 students who made sure we had a great time!
After reading '17 Things I'm Not Allowed to do Anymore' we were inspired to create our own version. We had some very interesting ideas about what we might not be allowed to do anymore!
What a great term we have had in Room 20! A week of Geometry, EOTC, a Newsletter to publish, an exploration to MOTAT... and so much more. The busy people of Room 20 have been rushed off their feet with all that has been going on.
Take a moment to explore our photos and see some of the adventures we have had during Term 4.
Today we made a drawing machine. We created it out of the Little Bits robotic parts. We read the instructions carefully and built it but we needed to make some adjustments. First we tested it with a whiteboard pen but the pen didn't work so we got another one and it worked perfectly.
What a day we had in the movie making studios of the Mind Lab! It started with some great advice from one of our fabulous hosts Damon or 'D' for short.
I can't promise you that you will all succeed, but I can guarantee you will fail and when you fail you will learn something new!
And that is exactly what happened, we did fail and we did learn new things.
Today Wilson brought in a kite he made. We had heaps of fun trying to get it to fly, we almost got there!
It has inspired us to to get creative with kites...
An indoor race was held yesterday in Room 20. During the dictation race we needed to concentrate on the spelling and punctuation in a piece of text. We are learning to pay close attention to this in our own writing.
Last week we enjoyed welcoming our friends from Ningbo to share in a Kiwiana themed art experience. It was also a great opportunity to put our Mandarin lessons to use and have conversations with the students.
One of the challenges at the Snack Factory was to create a video snippet to hand over to the TV producers of a new food show for children. Here is the entry from The Chocolate Factory.
This week the discovery centre was taken over by nine different companies all on a mission to create a snack as part of the 'Snack Factory Challenge'. Our companies: Cupcakes on the Way, Peter's Pizza, Cheesiechewchew's, Blue Beans, Smack Parrots, Super Spring Rolls, The Chocolate Factory, Flaming Skull Boys and Cookies Delight had many tasks they needed to complete over the week.
We have plenty more that we will share, but to take a look at all that went on visit our site gallery.
Week 10 for Room 20 was out of the ordinary. We tackled a range of activities, learning how to make different things and then passing our learning on to others by holding our own workshops. Check out what this looked like by exploring our DLO's (digital learning objects) below!
As we develop our problem solving skills we are learning to explain the strategies we use to others. We think about the mistakes we make and how we can learn from these, and learn to justify our solutions. These mathematicians worked through this process while thinking about a strawberry patch and seats on a plane.
To raise money to go towards the training of guide dogs.
With everyone bringing a gold coin we were able to raise over $700 which will go towards the care and training of guide dogs and the important job that they take on.
Could you hear the noise coming from the Cornwall Park School hall on Wednesday morning? It's surprising that it's still standing.
Two players from the Warriors, Patrick and Toafofoa Sipley joined us bringing their messages of health and fitness in a fun and interactive assembly. Prizes, trivia and chanting were just some of things we tackled!
These young mathematicians are learning how to build their understanding by thinking, talking, explaining and justifying as they solve math problems. They worked together, made mistakes, learnt from each other, challenged each other as they came up with their solution.
Our STEM rotation and the rollercoaster extravaganza came to an end on Friday afternoon. The three jam packed afternoons showed off the collaborative problem solving skills of the year 3 and 4 learners in the Kauri team.

What a difference a weekend makes. Look how Nathan's seeds have changed over the weekend. Another awesome job by one of our expert seed sitters. Thanks Nathan!
More observations... when given water and a bit more time, just look at the progress these seeds are making under the watchful eye of seed sitter Maddison!
An empty classroom over the weekend is no place for seeds to thrive. Call in our professional 'Seed Sitters' to take care of them. Here is what Pranvi has noticed so far.
We are so excited to be sharing our writing with Kaitangata School in the South Island. We have put in a lot of effort to get it ready and today we packaged up our writing and it is ready to be collected! We will be waiting by the mailbox to see what we get from our buddy class.
We have learning to have a growth mindset in our class. We created Growth Mindset monsters to help us with the challenges we face in our learning. Here are 2 of them!
Learners in Room 20 are working hard to be self - managing learners. During reading we had lots going on and were all making great choices for ourselves.
We thought about how we could show others we are a Growth Mindset class. This group chose to make a movie to show that we can all encourage others to make good choices.
Room 20 is starting the year with a growth mindset. We are working on challenging ourselves, being open to new ideas and learning, and not giving up. We watched this short film 'SOAR' as inspiration for our creations to show others we are a Growth Mindset Class!
